History of "The Butterfly Concerts"
In her recent blog, TheButterflyConcerts.com, Lenora Helm explains The Butterfly Concerts humble beginnings......
"Quite by accident, I recently created a concert series -- The Butterfly Concerts -- to create a forum to raise monies for families and grass roots non-profits in profound, transformative situations. This concept took shape after the CD release concert event for my last release, Chronicles of a Butterfly, morphed into a concert to raise funds for a family in my apartment complex recently burned out by a tragic fire. The original intent when I booked the concert space was to celebrate the release of my new CD release following a 6-year hiatus. Two things happened to change the focus of the event. First, my neighbor’s house caught fire and the husband and 2 young boys were burned out of their apartment -- the wife, stationed in Iraq, could only come home for a weekend, and was required to return. This rocked my world, and bought to mind the experience I had at 12 years old, losing our house and belongings in a fire in my hometown of Chicago, one bitterly cold New Year’s Eve. Secondly, the neighbor’s fire and the community‘s response to the family sparked thoughts about who the people were that I leaned on in times of my own personal crisis." That initial CD release party for Helm's 2009 recording, Chronicles of a Butterfly and fundraising effort for the Elm Family was very successful, and written about by JazzTimes editor, Lee Mergner JazzTimes article.
This success proved encouraging and served as an impetus to create more opportunities to bring together communities of individuals, businesses, corporations and families around Jazz music, to transform lives.
The Butterfly Concerts is now a series of concert events realizing Ms. Helm's dream of creating community, using Jazz music as a vehicle, facilitating powerful networks of resources, resulting in critical transformation for the designee families and organizations worldwide.
